Missouri Arrival + Easter

Travel to Missouri couldn't have gone smoother. The kids both did great, both with getting up so early to get to the airport and on the flight. We all caught some Zzzzs on the flight, read a bit of Harry Potter, and they played on their devices. When we arrived it was great to have Grandmama waiting there for us! And then we saw Grandpa too! We didn't think he was coming, he sure does like to surprise people :)  On the way to Columbia from KC, we stopped at a diner for some lunch. I should have taken a photo of the tenderloin I ordered...it was bigger than my head. Dad and the kids played some Rock, Paper, Scissors while we waited for our food.
Made it into the apartment. It's a nice place! It is in college housing, but it was the only place we could find with a short lease that was furnished so we just keep repeating "It's only temporary." Spring Break is happening now and I'm guessing our surroundings will amplify a bit once all the students return.
I've been enjoying drinking hot chai out of my new favorite mug. My dear friend, Renee, gave it to me before we left. The other side says "Good friends are like stars. You don't always see them, but you know they're always there." So true.
Grandmama and Hannah kept busy with manicures and beading projects! Hannah is giving Grandmama a high five after they successfully completed a pattern for their bracelet.
 Serious workers.
The kids' wheels were in the van and it was nice to let them get out some energy as we explored the complex.

Easter was exciting! The bunny did a great job hiding the eggs and they finally found the last real one later on in the afternoon. Good thing it was before it started to smell!

 Chocolate Storm Trooper!
Hannah showing me her and Grandmama's masterpiece amidst the Easter frenzy.
Gorgeous eggs! This year we weren't able to decorate our own, but have lovely family nearby now (!!!) who were generous enough to donate some to our cause. Thanks, guys! We love them!
While Mom and Dad were still here we went out to show Mason and the kids the university. The kids loved the columns...who doesn't?!

Hanging with Thomas Jefferson. Hannah said "that's a fake man."
Blowing bubbles on the balcony of our apartment.

Leaving Portland

It has been 3 weeks since we found out Mason got the job as GM of Lakeview Biodiesel and a lot has happened in those 3 weeks. Here is a recap....

We said good-bye to A LOT of friends. It was emotional, but we're so happy to have the memories we do with each and every one of them. Many of these fine folks became our inner circle that we relied on in times of crisis and celebration. Thank you all. We miss you but feel certain our paths will cross again.

Hannah and her bestie, Pearl.

The kids did a lot of coloring since their toys were packed up. I really like Zane's penguin!
There were some tough days in there...the two days that we had open houses and had to be out of the house got interesting.
Luckily, one of those days Matt, Audrey, Alice, and Owen came down from Seattle to visit one last time while we're on the same coast and we were able to go play in their hotel room and take advantage of the pool.

Zane and Owen are buddies.
Out to dinner at Who-Song and Larry's.
We crashed our friend's Brad and Annie's house on Sunday when we didn't have an open house but we still had realtor's calling to show it. Who are we to say no?!
Maggie and Zane have been buddies since birth :)
Mason drove down to Stayton to pick up Virgil for a quick overnight. We couldn't leave without getting in some fuzzy snuggles!

Hannah and Alice (3), Owen (1), Zane (6).

Virgil was quick to reclaim his favorite spot.
Since our time was so limited, we threw a good-bye party so we could see a lot of friends at the same time. We got the back room in the Lucky Lab and visited with a bunch of folks.
Zombie boys. Oliver and Leo used to be our neighbors before we moved to Kenton. Love these guys!
My girl, Jeanne Marie, and I.
Nick is responsible for Mason and I meeting since he hired both of us at HTO in Virginia back in the day. Thanks, Nick!

The large moving truck was dropped off and we started to load. We packed and loaded, they drove. Notice the sale sign on the house...it only took 3 days to sell!
The kiddos with the neighbor's granddaughter, Brianna.
We usually do a little bit of a show before bed and since the couches were on the truck, obviously that's where we had to watch the show.
Zane's class at Peninsula gave him a great send off! We brought cupcakes and he gave each of them one of his matchbox cars. They each wrote a page "My favorite thing about Zane is...." Mama only cried a little bit.
Hannah got to spend a lot of time with her buddies Elsa and Joe because their Mama took her a few times so I could clean and pack.
Hannah's last day at Luchia's was hard too. The kids have grown up there. I have asked Luchia countless times for advice over the years and she has been a godsend for us. We are so thankful we found her and had her in our life for so long. Here's the whole crew: Ruta, Zane, Harvey, Maise, Leya, Hannah, and Haven.

Zane in his Winterhawks (hockey) hat that his teacher gave him.
At Hopworks saying good bye to more good friends, Ben, Jaden, and their daughter, Violet. Jaden was my first friend in Portland...sniff, sniff.

We went to OMSI one last time with Jeanne Marie and her daughters Pearl and Rose.

Home life was a bit sparse at the end. We were sleeping on borrowed air mattresses and sleeping bags, the truck was gone, and after Mason left to drive out in the van all we had was what we could take on the airplane.
Our very last night was spent with good friends Renee, Nick, Ada, Elsa, and Joe. Love that family!! Luckily they have family ties in Chicago so we'll see them again!
Zane and Ada.
Hannah and Elsa, but we like to call them Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito since the height difference is so vast and they're only a month and a half apart in age.
And at last it came. Time to leave. The kids and I took a cab to the airport and left Portland behind. We'll be back to visit eventually...
Missouri, here we come....
