OMSI

Today the Red Cross held their annual Volunteer Appreciation gathering at OMSI. We were there at 9am for the breakfast, which Zane ate none of due to all the excitement, and attempted to stay for the speeches but didn't even make it past the sound check. Instead we explored the Music Experience in the next room.
 Checking the levels....
These are moving lights on the floor of the DJ booth.
Next we headed upstairs to check out the Science Explorer room. Wow! There was so much to do and see there! Zane started by stacking wood chunks on the scale.
 Dove into the ball pit.
 Magnified some stuff.
And we spent a lot of time at the ball machine.
We cooled down with a snack outside.
Our little explorer...ready for a nap!

Egg Hunt

Yesterday we ventured out to Fort Vancouver for an egg hunt! A huge thanks to Jean for organizing since I know figuring out schedules, naps, and availability for so many people can't be easy. We got a great spot at a picnic table in the shade and set up base camp. From there the kids hunted for eggs, artfully decorated by Jean, Annie, and Jo, played ball, bocce, snacked, and had general merriment.

Zane's understanding of the egg hunt wasn't totally there. He thought it was neat when I pointed one out to him, but as far as him going off on his own to search...maybe next year.

Found one! He's holding it high in the air for everyone to see :)
 Peek-a-boo.
It was fun seeing all the kids interact. They're all different ages, but get along really well. Here we have Leo, Jo, Oliver, Arthur, Fred, Annie & Maggie, Brad, Janique & Z playing bocce, Jo & Jean surveying the table, and Jake & Oliver being crazy boys.

There's a huge gazebo there and Zane thought it was so much fun to go up the steps, run around, come down the steps...repeat. I was exhausted just watching.
Jake was teaching Ollie how to roll. Z was imitating.

"Hey Mama, here's another egg." (Isn't Maggie the cutest in her little dress?!)
After such a great day it's hard to believe Z had his first trip to the ER last night since nothing seemed wrong during the day. His breathing was very labored, shallow, and quick. And he was burning up. Away we all went (at 10:30pm). Turns out the poor little guy has an upper respiratory infection which lead to a fever of 102 which led to the heavy breathing (60 breaths/min!). He was checked over and medicated and we came home (at 1am). Everyone is a bit sluggish this morning, especially Mason I'm sure, who only got 4 hours of sleep before heading to work, but I'm happy to report that Z is mostly himself today...just gave Mama and Papa a good scare last night.

Screen Door

Mason unexpectedly got the day off so we did something we've been trying to do for a very long time. We used a gift certificate for the Screen Door that we've had since our baby shower for Zane (thanks Adam, Lindsay, and Caitlin!). Ummm...that was nearly 2 years ago. We've driven over there several times either to discover that they're not open on that particular day, they're closed for redecorating, or the line was just ridiculous. The goal today: Eat there. We were not scared off by the long line this time!
Plus, it was sunny and warmish out!
We opted to sit outside on the patio since there was a shorter wait for that. It was great, and our server was understanding of us having a little one who needed food right away so our Monkey Bread arrived shortly thereafter. They're like little cinnamon roll pods. De-lish! Zane thought his big boy cup with a straw was pretty special.
The Fried Chicken Waffle came on high recommendation from a friend so that's what I ordered. Good lord, I was not prepared for the mountain of food that arrived! There are THREE pieces of chicken on that waffle. I did my best, and even shared with the boys, but we still had 2 pieces left over. We'll be having chicken salad for dinner :)  Mason's frittata with a side of home fries and toast looked awesome as well, but I was so preoccupied with my own meal that I didn't snap a pic.
All in all, this family gives The Screen Door 6 thumbs up and it was well worth the wait!

Architect & Videographer

Little man has re-discovered the blocks that Grandpa Hal made him for Christmas. He LOVES the hinged door. I love that he has to point to where he's going to place a block before he puts it down.

If you get dizzy or nauseous when viewing jerky handheld video (like I do) you may want to skip this one as Z is the videographer for the second half.

1 1/2

Our little man is 1 1/2 today. How did that happen? WHEN did that happen?! All those cliche sayings are true: "If you blink, you'll miss something.", "They grow up before your eyes.", and "It seems like only yesterday...." Sigh.

 Airplane!

Park & Zoo

Friday was gorgeous with temps in the mid 60s! Zane, Virg, and I walked over to Kenton Park, instead of the normal Columbia, because it's not under the shade of trees and we needed some Vitamin D!! Zane "sniffed" flowers. He doesn't really sniff, he blows with his mouth. I'm trying to figure out how you teach someone to sniff aside from showing him over and over...
The water feature was pretty neat. Luckily it's not on yet!
 Snacks with Virg.
"Ball ball!!" This man was kind enough to share his ball for a little bit.
When we got home it was still too nice to go inside and our friends Zoe and Jack came over to play!
Today we went to the zoo with Annie, Maggie, Jo, Ollie, and Leo. Zane liked the polar bear because he had a "ball ball."
Seeing how we measure up to the bears...Zane doesn't like being the smallest, he's outta here!
 Annie wrangles both at once.
Snack time!
We just had to document that we all made it OUT! Together! With the kids!
